Check Her Out!

I really need to post about our fun Memorial Day trip and Luke's 8th birthday but first check out Miss Leah.

About 2 1/2 weeks ago Leah started standing up without holding onto anything...

She would get up and look around with her arms in the air, so proud of herself...

Then fall down and clap for herself.

And then only a week after that...
She was taking steps!  She still uses the bum scoot as her main way to get around, but she can walk!  It has been so fun and exciting to watch her learn this.  Due to her crazy flexibility she can even put her legs under her with her bum still on the ground and squat up with no hands...not something I've seen a baby do before!

Leah is doing great.  She weighed in at 18 lbs. 4 oz. last week which is still not even on the charts, but is a two pound weight gain in 2 months so our doctor was happy with that.  We also took her down for an orthopedic consult at Shriners.  While we were checking in a little Chinese boy Luke's age, with a little arm just like Leah's, came in with his mom.  He was so cute and they were so excited to meet Leah.  The doc there thought Leah looked great.  She said when Leah is older if she wants a prosthetic they can hook her up but that they're not that helpful in most situations for kids like Leah...the little boy we met was getting one to use riding a bike. She did take an x-ray of Leah's pelvis to make sure her hip joints look normal.  The sockets looked great.  One side was slightly out of alignment, but she thought it was most likely due to the position during x-ray or just that she hasn't been weight bearing for long.  We are going to go back in 6 months just to check again.  This girl is funny and sweet, and we love her so much.  She is tiny but full of spunk!
